RT Shepherd and Son (Scotland) Ltd ImageThe Dragoon Guards album Spirit Of The Glen: Journey made history in May 2009 as it became the first ever pipe band recording to win a major musical award at a ceremony in London.

Their previous album Spirit Of The Glen reigned on the top of the classical charts for 14 weeks and was nominated in 2008 for a Classical BRIT but on that occasion failed to win.

The followup album went one better and also became the first time the award was won by non professional artists. As with the mainstream BRIT Awards, the Classical BRITs are determined by public vote.

Both albums were recorded in Basra, Iraq and both were recorded using the Shepherd Orchestral Chanter.
